What is BMX?
Did you ever think about what BMX meant? Well obviously it means BICYCLE MOTOCROSS, but is that all it means? Is it actually more then a word? Is it an image? Or is it a trend? Is it a lifestyle? Is it a form of rebellion?
BMX can mean alot of different things to alot of different people, but for me, it doesn't mean one thing. BMX is everything, or is it everything is BMX? In some way or other everything in my life is connected to BMX. I've developed interests in photography and web design through BMX. My grades in school reflect upon how much time I spend riding my bike when I should be studying or doing homework. My health is almost directly connected to riding. Whether it be a cold from not wearing a heavy jacket, a bad knee or even a concussion; chances are I got it from riding my bike. I have a problem with losing concentration or zoning out when im in a car or outside not on my bike, because I have to look at everything I see and think of how it could be ridden on a bike. Financially, alot of my money goes to BMX. Whether it be buying new parts, a new riding video, or new film for my camera.
BMX has affected and does affect me greatly socially. I've made alot of new friends and acquaintances through riding. I've also lost friends through riding, and because of riding I haven't made many new friends that don't ride. Most people my age have one interest and that is members of the opposite (or same) sex. But for me, girls are just a burden. Sure, girls are fun to be around. But when everything is considered I'd rather be riding my bike then worrying about getting laid. Once again, for me, BMX is everything.
